STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY
R. Saunder Architects Ltd. develops conceptual ideas into aesthetically pleasing facilities in an efficient and cost effective manner. Our firm strives to visualize and communicate the client’s wishes during the design process so that the final outcome is a “facility” that meets their “needs” and is not just a “showcase for the architect”.

Our firm is dedicated to bringing the client’s vision to reality within their “budgets and time constraints”. We strive to achieve this by:
  • ensuring any project related technical representation to Alberta Public Works, Supply and Services and Alberta Health is carried out with client approval and authorization
  • effective contract administration
  • project supervision
  • preparing a clear set of contract documents to avoid changes during construction to avoid change notices and change orders
  • quality control, negotiating minimum changes during construction
  • tender documents which demand labour rates be included and allowing only a minimum of 5% mark-up on any change orders during construction
Through efficient contract administration, our system eliminates lengthy price negotiations during construction, delays on project completion, and expensive cost overruns. We closely monitor the contractor during construction, update the client on project status and are always flexible to incorporate any client changes into the project in a very timely manner. We act quickly “on any problems” providing a solid and comprehensive solution; keeping the project on schedule and within budget.

MANAGEMENT PHILOSOPHY: Participatory Management
In our firm the principals of participative management are applied. Each project is individually dealt with combining a commonality of interests, mutual trust and interdependence at various staff levels. There is a strong interpersonal relationship between project captain principal, team members and the client. The work product is evaluated at every stage and subtle motivation techniques are used during the project. Major achievers are recognized at the end of the project. A check list is developed for every stage of work and followed through for quality control. Work is evenly distributed in advance to avoid any stressful situations.

Our team emphasizes:
  • programs and services proposed are consistent with the “Proposal Call”.
  • proper required collaboration with the work being performed by sub-consultants and our firm would ensure that communications are positive, insightful and proactive
  • proper consultation and vetting of information with administration responsible for planning
  • that the work is submitted on time by keeping track of milestones set for each phase as the work progresses
  • excellent communication and co-operation with all parties concerned
  • expertise and insight in evaluating the existing facilities and programs as well as providing a “Master Plan” that meets the functional ”needs” of the users.
  • review of the budget, existing conditions, and assess whether the budget is consistent with the needs, program operating systems and site conditions.

ETHICS:
Our policy is to undertake projects with confidence and enthusiasm, knowing the firm is “competent and capable” of providing professional services to bring the client’s vision to reality with utmost satisfaction.

Our firm strives to always work together with its client to develope conceptual ideas into tangible projects with a quality of aesthetics to enhance the client’s image while developing a project to meet their parameters. Time and costs are always “foremost” on our minds, and we strive to meet these needs for our client.

In conclusion, R. Saunder Architects Ltd. always acts in a very professional and ethical manner. Therefore, our firm has never had a “professional liability claim”, or any other legal law suits filed against it.
